Residential Electricity Rates - Effective May 1, 2010

RESIDENTIAL ELECTRICITY RATES

The Ontario Energy Board announced new electricity prices effective May 1, 2010 for Regulated Price Plan, or RPP, consumers who buy their electricity commodity from a utility.

The new prices, appearing on the “Electricity” line of your hydro bill, are increasing to 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour for the first 600 kilowatt hours you use per month and 7.5 cents per kilowatt hour above that level. For the rate transition period, bills will be pro-rated. This is due to the fact that most customer bills will include pre and post May 1, 2010 charges and will show the energy consumed on separate lines at both the old and new rates.

BREAKDOWN OF CHARGES

COMMODITY CHARGES:

This is the cost of electric commodity supplied during the billing period. Grimsby Power collects and passes on this charge directly to Retailers for customers with a contract and to the electricity suppliers for customers without a contract.

Customers with a contract pay the price made between them and their Retailer. Grimsby Power only invoices customers for the commodity price given to us by your Retailer. Questions concerning the price paid should be directed to your Retailer.

The majority of residential customers without a contract pay the regulated price plan rate.

Commodity Rates effective May 1, 2010
• 6.5¢/kWh for the first 600 kWh used per month
• 7.5¢/kWh for the remaining kWh used per month

Note: As of May 1, 2010, the threshold for electricity usage at 6.5/kWh decreases from 1000 kWh to 600 kWh.

We can help you keep your cost down. Check out the Energy Tips in the Enersource Conservation section on this website.

Remember, Grimsby Power doesn’t profit on the cost of commodity. We charge a regulated price for delivering the electricity to your home.

DELIVERY CHARGES include:

Transmission Charge: $1.19/kWh
This covers the costs involved in transmitting electricity from generators to the town.

Variable Distribution Charge: 0.93¢/kWh
This covers the cost of delivering electricity to your home as well as designing, building and maintaining the distribution system.

Customer Charge: $16.17
This is a charge for fixed costs that do not change with your consumption, such as meter reading and billing. The customer charge is stated on a 30-day basis.

We know you expect us to be efficient in our business and we’ve answered the challenge by offering some of the lowest residential distribution rates in the area.

REGULATORY CHARGES include:

Wholesale Market Service: 0.65¢/kWh
This charge covers costs such as market regulation and the management of the system.

*Standard Supply Service (SSS) Rate: $0.25
This is an administration charge of $0.25 stated on a 30-day basis.

* This service charge does not apply to customers that purchase their energy from a retailer.

ADJUSTMENT FACTOR: 1.0502

When electricity is delivered over a power line, it is normal for a small amount of power to be consumed or lost as heat. Equipment, such as wires and transformers, consumes power before it gets to the home or business. The adjustment factor accounts for these losses.

DEBT RETIREMENT CHARGE: 0.7¢/kWh

This charge is to retire the debt of the former Ontario Hydro.
